Thanksgiving
Dr. Alexander Whyte of Edinburgh, Scotland, was famous for his pulpit prayers which always included words of thanksgiving. One stormy morning a member of the congregation thought to himself, “The preacher will have nothing to thank God for on a wretched morning like this!” Dr. Whyte began his prayer, “We thank Thee, O God, that it is not always like this.”
Thanksgiving Every Day
Thanksgiving Day comes once a year
By date and proclamation:
In country, town, and city, too,
For all throughout the nation.
That rich and poor, both high and low,
And all both great and small,
Should send up praise and thanks to God,
And at His feet shall fall.
We thank and praise His holy name
For every blessing rare,
And for the gift of Christ, His Son,
Who doth our burdens bear.
Oh, draw us closer to Thy side,
Dear Savior, do we pray,
That every day throughout the year
May be Thanksgiving Day.
I’m not certain of the source of the following. It was in my files and it is possible that this also came from Alexander Whyte.
