Christians, please vote! It is not too late to head to the polls.

If you have not mailed in your ballot already, go to the polls on Tuesday and cast your ballot. Do not let anything stop you. Wait in lines if necessary. Battle the weather, traffic, or whatever is necessary to get your ballot in.

If true Christians would vote for their biblical values, we would live in a very different country today. Some Christians have biblical values but do not vote. Some Christians do not live or vote by biblical values. And some Christians have not been taught how their faith should impact their voting choices. These are the values that are at stake in this election.

Vote for freedom of conscience.

Our founding fathers sought a new land where they could worship according to their consciences. This was Paul’s longing as he instructed believers to pray for civic leaders.

Therefore, I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. (1 Timothy 2:1-4)

Consider this present-day headline in England–Nearly 60,000 join call for UK prime minister to safeguard right to pray silently. When people cannot stand and pray silently, they have lost their freedom of conscience. The government is persecuting people for their beliefs. This is coming here if we do not stand. And if we do not vote, our fate is our own fault.

Vote for freedom of speech.

The Great Commission leaves us no other option but to publicly speak the gospel of Jesus Christ. When the disciples were called in before Jewish leadership, they were forbidden to preach the gospel. The passage teaches us that civil disobedience is required when Christians are forbidden to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ (which includes all of the word).

“Did we not strictly command you not to teach in this name? And look, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this Man’s blood on us!”

But Peter and the other apostles answered and said: “We ought to obey God rather than men. 30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus whom you murdered by hanging on a tree. Him God has exalted to His right hand to be Prince and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. And we are His witnesses to these things, and so also is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey Him. (Acts 5:28-32)

The gospel and its implications are not options. If I must preach the gospel, I must preach on the sins of the age. If I cannot preach the sins of the age, I cannot preach the gospel. Yet, preaching on the sins of the age today is called hate speech. An attack on freedom of speech is an attack on the gospel itself.

Vote for the sanctity of human life.

Abortion is shedding innocent blood (Proverbs 6:16-19). It is as simple as that. There is no way to make the case that an unborn baby is worthy of death. God condemns the taking of innocent life from Genesis to Revelation. It is the most basic purpose of human government. If we cannot find a candidate who believes everything we do regarding the sanctity of human life, find the closest one who saves the most lives.

Vote for individual stewardship before God.

Exodus 20:15 is simple. It says Thou shalt not steal. 2 Thessalonians 3:10 says that if you do not work, you should not eat. Vote for the candidate that will allow you to be the steward God desires you to be over the resources that He has placed within your hands.

Vote for biblical marriage.

When a culture defies the God of creation, it begins to destroy itself. Abortion, homosexuality, transgenderism, and selfishness are the ways a culture commits generational suicide. In Genesis 1-2 God created one man and one woman to be united in marriage for life. This is the only definition of marriage the world has known up until the 21st Century. Vote for the candidate that will be the closest on this issue.

Vote for just balances.

Proverbs 11:1 says that a false balance is an abomination to God, but a just weight is his delight. Cheating and stealing from one another is an abomination to God. It is the government’s responsibility to make sure commerce is honest, that elections are honest, and that graft, bribes and corruption are punished. This not only is a blessing to the citizens, but it is also pleasing to God.

There are more issues, but these are the main ones. Please, Christian. Do not fail your fellow believers. Do not fail your children and grandchildren. Do not fail those who, in the future, might join us in the body of Christ.

Vote.
