Introducing the P&D Baptist History Page
A recent addition to our site is our Baptist History page. Our blog focuses on making Biblical applications to modern life from a fundamentalist Baptist perspective. An important component of that perspective is Baptist History, and especially our history as the FBFI. Dr. Larry Oats is the curator of this portion of our site. We solicited a brief comment from him to introduce its content to you. — Editor.
The history of the FBFI is a story worth telling. Our recent publication of For the Faith offers the first formal telling of our story for your consideration. Yet there are many more aspects to the Baptist story waiting to be told. Therefore, Proclaim and Defend has created a Baptist History page providing access to information about the last century of fundamental Baptists, and also to encourage others to write more of the story.
There are available biographies of just a few of the leaders and presidents of the FBFI. Numerous organizations have been related to the FBFI through its history. Hundreds of events have affected fundamental Baptists. The histories of untold churches and individuals who have impacted or been impacted by the FBFI and similar organizations need to be written and made available.
If you have not purchased For the Faith, buy a copy, and begin your reading there. For the Faith provides an understanding of the foundational events occurring in the 19th century that led to the formation of fundamentalism as an identifiable movement. It then traces the history of Baptist fundamentalists as they organized the Fundamentalist Fellowship of the Northern Baptist Convention, the Conservative Baptist Fellowship, the Fundamentalist Baptist Fellowship, and finally the Foundations Baptist Fellowship International. You will be introduced to the leaders and presidents of the movement and the major events of its 100 years of faithfulness to the Lord.
If you have an interest in writing, whether it would be book length, an article, or just a few paragraphs about an event, person, or organization, drop a note to and let’s see what we can do.
This web site seeks to collect what material is available, to encourage others to write, and to provide a history that will help propel the FBFI into the next hundred years, should the Lord tarry His coming.
