Bob Jones University reducing staff after $4.5 million cost overage

Bob Jones University will reduce its staff over the next year by about 50 employees, the result of a $4.5 million expense overage in the last fiscal year, school officials said Tuesday.Faculty members in academic programs “where we have more faculty than needed” have been notified that their contracts will not be renewed following the end of this academic year in May, said Randy Page, chief of staff in the BJU president’s office.”

These actions were taken at the direction of the board of trustees to strengthen our position for growth in academic areas that continue to provide enrollment growth,” he said.Dan Turner, director of bands for BJU who has been an employee at the school for 47 years, said some of the positions that are not being renewed are in the fine arts program, which has not had the enrollment it has had in past years.”This is not a shock to anybody who has been paying attention,” he said. “We knew something had to happen.”
