Help Me to See Sin As You See It

Help me dear Lord to see sin as You see it.
Help me never to dress it up as men often do.
Help me see how the smallest split-second sin,
in the vast ocean of Your created universe
is a monumental rebellion against Your holiness.

Help me dear Lord to see how sin makes me a rebel.
Help me see sin as an insane rejection of You.
You have enlightened me and regenerated me.
You have indwelled me with the Holy Spirit—
The Spirit Who grows fruit within me,
Fruit of Your communicable attributes!

And yet sin remains—ugly, dark, and wicked.
And sin quenches the Spirit’s work.
Sin grieves the Holy Spirit You gave me.
Sin closes Your ears to my prayers.

Sin’s pleasurable season is but a moment.
A moment of rebellion against You.
A moment of depraved willfulness.
A moment of human wisdom rejecting You.

Help me dear Lord to see sin as you see it.
Help me to see it for the folly that it is.
Help me to close my ears to the call of sin,
And to those who proclaim sin’s appeal.

When I see sin as You see it dear Lord,
Then I will have true understanding.
I will understand Your judgments–
When You killed all but the eight on the ark;
When You killed Nadab and Abihu;
When You killed Ananias and Sapphira;
When You killed Lot’s wife;
When You killed Uzzah beside Your ark.
When You destroyed those against Moses,
When You destroyed nations against You.

When I see sin as You see it my Lord,
Then I will fear You as I should,
And I will have a beginning of knowledge.
When I have the vision to see as You see,
I will not make the world my friend,
And thereby make You my enemy.

When I see sin as You see it my Lord,
I will be a radical and useful disciple;
I will be stripped of my fear of men;
I will drop the pursuits of this life,
And live for the age yet to come.

When I see sin as You see it my Lord,
Then I will act zealously against it,
Regardless human consequences,
Like Phinehas of old at Baal-Peor.

When I see sin as You see it my Lord,
Then I will make no provision for the flesh.
I will joyfully discipline my life,
Not to create love for You in my heart,
But because that love is already there—
The first of the Spirit’s fruit.

When I see sin as You see it my Lord,
I will not high-handedly exercise liberty,
Trampling over fellow believers,
But instead I will abstain from every form of evil.
I will be transformed by a renewed mind,
So that I will prove what is good and acceptable—
Those things perfectly aligned with Your will.

When I see sin as You see it my Lord,
Then I will tremble at the coming judgment,
When death and Hades are cast away,
into the everlasting torment of the Lake of Fire.
I will not explain this away as men want to do,
As they use their human wisdom to soften sin,
And question eternal punishment.
So instead I will call on men everywhere to repent.
That is what I will do when I have eyes to see;
When I see sin as You see it my Lord.

So give me dear Lord, give me this vision,
Lest I fall short of what I should be,
And employ my futile, feeble wisdom.
Let me see my sin as You see it.
I must see it the way You do,
So that all of life has clarity and purpose.

Help me dear Lord to see sin as You see it.
